New crime fighting strategy yields results

    BASSETERRE, St. Kitts – IN their ongoing fight against crime, members of the Federation’s Security Forces conducted a joint operation yesterday morning (Jun. 17) in Basseterre, which resulted in the of a number of items including a pair of pants suspected to have been used in the commission of a crime.

     

    The operation, a Walk-Through/Foot Patrol, was conducted in the areas of McKnight on the west of Basseterre through Ponds Extension on the east.

    According to a police communiqué, 30 persons were stopped and searched on suspicion of possession of controlled drugs, arms and ammunition, while 15 vehicles were also stopped and searched as well as searches done in 36 abandoned houses.

    “The searches resulted in two (2) pairs of gloves, two (2) masks, a small quantity of cannabis, four (4) dime bags containing cannabis seed, thirty (35) cannabis plants ranging from seedlings to 7 feet in height, one (1) camouflage shirt, one (1) bike frame and parts suspected to be stolen or unlawfully obtained, and one (1)  pant suspected to be used in the commission of a crime were found and taken into Police custody,” the communiqué reads.

    No arrests were made and the police pointed out that there were many residents who welcomed the presence of the law enforcement personnel and the actions they took, but there were others who rejected their presence. 
     
    The communiqué stated that the High Command of the Royal St. Christopher and Nevis Police Force “takes this opportunity to inform the nationals, residents and visitors of the Federation that every effort will be made to ensure their safety and security”.

    It also stated that the support and assistance of all are necessary and important in order to accomplish the Security Forces’ task of making the Federation a safer place.
