5th Annual Awards banquet – SPBS reaches significant milestone

    June 22nd, 2015  --  SPBS (Sandy Point Benevolent Society) is in top gear with plans for their Annual Awards Banquet. This year’s banquet marks a significant milestone – it represents the organization’s FIFTH Awards banquet. Plans are underway to make this more grand than ever. The banquet will be held at the impressive Maestro’s Banquet Hall, 1703 Bronxdale Avenue, Bronx, NY on September 5th,2015. The banquet will be held under the distinguished patronage of The Honorable Constance V. Mitcham, Esq. SPBS is profoundly grateful that this distinguished and accomplished  leader has agreed to partner with us during this milestone event.  

     

    The Honorable Constance V. Mitcham, Esq., was born in the town of Sandy Point, St. Kitts.  She attended Primary, Senior and Girl’s High School in St. Kitts.  Upon completing High School, she journeyed to England where she obtained her Advanced Level GCE subjects and enrolled in Kingston University College of Law from where she graduated with an LL.B with Honors in 1971. In 1972, Miss Mitcham completed her Council of Legal Education at Middle Temple Inn of Court, in London, England and obtained the Barrister at Law Certificate and was called to the Bar of England and Wales.

    In 1974, Miss Mitcham returned to the Caribbean and was called to the Bar of several countries and jurisdictions including St. Kitts and Nevis, Anguilla, the British Virgin Islands (BVI) and Antigua.  She served as High Court Registrar and Chief Magistrate of the BVI.  She also served as Supervisor of Elections of the BVI, President of the St. Kitts and Nevis Bar Association, Country Vice President of the International Federation of Female Lawyers.  In 1980 she served as Senior Magistrate in St. Kitts.

    In 1982, Miss Constance Mitcham was a member of the St. Kitts and Nevis negotiating team for Independence from Britain and in 1984 was the first woman to be elected to the Parliament of St. Kitts and Nevis and served as Minister of Health, Women’s Affairs and Labour until 1995, when she retired from active politics.

    Today Miss Constance Mitcham is still very active in her legal practice as Founder and Head of the Caribbean Legal firm of Mitcham & Benjamin – Chambers, Basseterre, St. Kitts. 

    SPBS is very elated that the Honorable Constance V. Mitcham has kindly consented to offer her Patronage to this auspicious occasion.

    The $95.00 event cost will allow for an all-night open bar, free entry in door prize drawings, trinkets, customized with the national colors of St.Kitts and Nevis and a complimentary souvenir magazine printed in celebration of 2015 Gala Event. 

    All are invited to get your tickets early and come and share the evening with SPBS.  It is the event to attend on the Saturday evening of the Labor Day weekend.  It goes from 8 pm until 2 am.
      
    The Awards Banquet promises to be a reunion of sorts, an evening of celebrating excellence, connecting and reconnecting, with friends, classmates, schoolmates, teachers and nationals of the Federation. Lots of Caribbean food, drinks, fun, laughter, music, dancing, and celebration will make the night one to remember.  Music will be supplied by the famed DJ Rabuka of 3’s HiFi out of SKB.

    Mark the date and come celebrate with scores of nationals from the twin island Federation of St. Kitts and Nevis resident at home and abroad are expected to attend this GALA affair.
