Fire leaves two homeless in Sandy Point

By: Terresa McCall, SKNVibes.com

BASSETERRE, St. Kitts – TWO individuals were left homeless last evening (Jun. 23) when the house in which they lived and its contents were totally destroyed by fire.

According to information provided by Fire Chief Everette O’Garro, the wooden one-storey structure, located at The Alley in Sandy Point, was occupied by James and Lesroy Hodge.

He informed that at about 9:50 p.m. the Sandy Point Fire Unit responded to a report of a fire and, on arrival at the scene, it found the house engulfed in flames.

The unit took to action and was able to extinguish the fire within 45 minutes to an hour. Nonetheless, the house and its contents were consumed.

He said the origin of the fire is unknown at this stage but investigations are being made with the hope of attaining that information.

Fire Chief O’Garro took the opportunity to remind homeowners to “be very, very careful when it comes to fires. They can be very dangerous and could result in the loss of life, limb or property.

“We are encouraging all to conduct a proper assessment of your homes or business places and eliminate all fire hazards. This would greatly reduce the likelihood of the occurrence of a fire”.
