THE Estridge Primary School in Mansion Village was the target of malicious damage early yesterday morning (Apr. 12), resulting in the destruction and defacing of the school’s property.

A Ministry of Education communiqué reveals a total of 51 window panes and supporting frames were damaged and removed from the school’s lunchroom. Vandal(s) also struck the nearby Mansion Playfield Pavilion, smashing nine of its bathroom window panes.

The damage became apparent to residents of the community shortly after sunrise. According to the Police Press and Public Relations Officer, Inspector Cromwell Henry, ongoing investigations have revealed that the incident occurred at around 4:00 a.m.

Henry stated that one person is currently in custody assisting with investigations. He said it is still unclear whether there was more than one perpetrator.

The Ministry communiqué notes that “the Ministry views with extreme disgust this deplorable and senseless act of vandalism against the school. No matter what the motive, such acts will only harm the children who attend the school, robbing them of a proper learning environment”.

It further states that “the Ministry is soliciting the support and increased vigilance of the general public in communities close to schools, and requests that any suspicious activity observed around school buildings be immediately reported to the nearest Police Station”.
