By: SKNIS, Press Release

Basseterre, St. Kitts, July 03, 2015 (SKNIS): Staff from the Department of Community Development joined the Williams family of St. Peters on Friday (July 03) in celebrating the long life of Theresa Gladys Williams who turns 102-years-old tomorrow.

Ms. Williams, who is originally from Market Street, currently lives with her niece Alberta Brotherson and is cared for by her great niece Sharalyn Williams. Minister of State responsible for Social Services and Community Development, Honourable Wendy Phipps, received a warm welcome from the centenarian as she commended her for the milestone celebration.

“I believe that we might have been mislead in terms of your age because based on what we are seeing you look younger than certain people who are in their fifties,” Minister Phipps remarked. “I think it is a testament to how well you may have lived your life and there are lots of lessons we can probably learn from you, especially our younger people in terms of finding out the important things we would need to do to live a long, healthy and God-blessed life.”

Ms. Phipps also presented the birthday celebrant with a bouquet of flowers and a gift basket packed with edible delights.

Ms. Williams’ grandson Ricky Manners who resides in Leeds, England shares the same birth date with his grandmother. He travels to St. Kitts every year to celebrate with the family matriarch. The 51-year-old thanked his family members and government for the support they provide to his kin.

“I’m really, really grateful and it’s a pleasure to be here,” he emphasized.

Theresa Williams is one of the longest living persons in St. Kitts and Nevis.
