TDC Press Release

Basseterre, St. Kitts - A promising young architect and first year female student enrolled in the Architectural Design Technology Programme at the Clarence Fitzroy Bryant College (CFBC), is the recipient of the 2009 TDC/BERGER Academic Scholarship.

Ms. Rakiya Hamilton received the accolade valued at five thousand five hundred dollars (EC$5,500) from Ms. Andrea Duguid, the Assistant Sales Manager (Exports) of BERGER Paints (Barbados) Limited, at a brief ceremony held at the Burden Street Campus.

In making the presentation, Ms. Duguid congratulated Hamilton and offered words of encouragement to the outstanding scholar.

“On behalf of BERGER Paints, it gives me great pleasure to present you with this year’s scholarship. We are very proud of you and your achievements and trust that this financial contribution will go a long way in helping you to realize your dreams,” remarked Duguid.

In return, Hamilton expressed appreciation to TDC, BERGER Paints, lecturers, and her mother for the unwavering support.

“I would like to say to say thank you to TDC and BERGER Paints for selecting me to receive this scholarship.  It really means a lot to me. I now have an opportunity to further my studies with their assistance.  However, I would not have been able to receive this scholarship without the guidance and ongoing encouragement of my lectures, and my loving mother, Ms. Marilyn Hamilton,” said the elated student.

In giving brief remarks on behalf of TDC, Ms. Gail McAlmont, the Project Officer in the Client Relations and Marketing Department, reiterated the Company’s willingness to continue to back an initiative that recognizes and rewards students for their work ethic and outstanding academic performances.

“The TDC Group of Companies is pleased once again through a collaborative effort with our principals, BERGER Paints (Barbados) Limited, to recognize and reward deserving students in this programme for their continued hard work and dedication towards achieving outstanding academic performance,” stated McAlmont.

Present to witness the ceremony were officials of the College including Mrs. Sonia McPhail, Principal, Ms. Venetta Mills, Registrar, Mr. Michael Leader, Head of the Architectural Design Technology Programme, Mr. James Kelly, Head of the Technical Division (CFBC), and Mrs. Sonia Herbert, the Guidance Councilor.

The scholarship was introduced in 2001 and covers expenses for students pursuing studies for the two-year Architectural Technician Diploma.
