BASSETERRE, St. Kitts – VANDALS broke into the Basseterre High School over the weekend and left a trail of paint splatter, rum bottles and the scent of marijuana in their wake.

A press release issued by the Royal St. Christopher and Nevis Police Force today (Aug. 4) informs that the break-in occurred sometime between 4:00 p.m. on Friday (Jul. 31) and 1:20 p.m. on Saturday (Aug. 1).

The communiqué indicated that an individual who works at the school went there and found the western campus office was broken into.

“Initial investigations revealed that a joiner who works at the Woodwork Shop at the school was on his way to the Woodwork Shop on Sunday, August 2 when he observed a door to the Western Office open. The building was checked by the joiner and he observed that the office was vandalized with the dry chemical from a multi-purpose fire extinguisher and paint splatter on everything inside the offices including the photocopy machines, computers and student files.”

The police informed that on checking the compound it was discovered that other rooms had been vandalized.

“The entire compound was checked and a number of classrooms and the Guidance Counselling Department were observed open with the stench of marijuana and rum bottles inside.”

Members of the public who might have information about this incident are asked to provide such to the authorities.

“Investigations into the matter continue…Anyone who has information pertaining to this incident is asked to contact the Criminal Investigations Department at 465-2241 etc. 220, 230 or 231, the nearest police station or Crime Stoppers at 1-800-8477 (TIPS).

“Remember, you do not have to provide your personal information, and you may be eligible to receive a reward.”

The Basseterre High School was closed late last year because of complaints of environmental contamination and the effects it had on the student body and faculty.
