BASSETERRE, St. Kitts – An autopsy performed on the body of the toddler who was found dead in bed on Saturday (Aug. 1) revealed that he died of natural causes.

A police communiqué issued earlier today (Aug. 6) stated that the autopsy was performed yesterday by resident pathologist Dr. AdrianNuniez, who concluded that the cause of 18-month- R'Quandro Ahmie Stephantre Vantaye Allenat’s death was due to Respiratory Distress Syndrome.

According to BootsWebMD, “Respiratory Distress Syndrome is a potentially life-threatening condition in which the lungs cannot provide enough oxygen to a person's body.”

At about 6:30 a.m. on Saturday, officers at the Cayon Police Station had received a report that the 18-month-old boy was found motionless in his bed by a family member at their Lodge Project home.

Police Press and Public Relations Officer Inspector Lyndon David had told SKNVibes that the report was made by the infant’s father, who informed the police that when he checked on his son, who was in bed, he found that his body was cold and lifeless.

He also said that officers of the Cayon Police Station and members of the Crime Scene Unit had visited the home. “They summoned the District Medical Officer, who examined the child and pronounced him dead.”

According to sources, some strange marks were seen on the infant’s right cheek and his right shoulder, and that he was suffering from a neurological disorder characterised by seizures.
