Old Road businessman shot by bandit

    BASSETERRE, St. Kitts – REPORTS reaching this media house state that a businessman is nursing a gunshot wound at the JNF Hospital following a robbery at his grocery store last night (Aug. 9).

     

    SKNVibes learned that the victim, Frederick James, also known as ‘Gabby’, was shot in his left leg by one of two masked men sometime after 10:30 p.m. while he was about to close his grocery store, which is situated on the Island’s Main Road in Old Road.

    Reportedly, while in the company of Dr. Charles Warner, two masked, armed men entered the business establishment and one of them approached and demanded money from James.

    An undisclosed sum was handed over to one of the bandit, who then shot the businessman in his leg and robbed Dr. Warner of his wallet, which contained money and his bank and identification cards.

    Shortly before 6:00 this morning, attempts were made to contact the Police Press and Public Relations Officer, Inspector Lyndon David, to get the police’s view on the incident, but they all proved futile. However, contact was made at 8:33 a.m. and David informed that he was “off island”.

    Calls were also made to the Assistant Commissioner with responsibility for Crime, Ian Queeley, but they all went unanswered.

    This publication however got through to Acting Commissioner of Police Stafford Liburd at 8:50 a.m., who indicated that he was at a meeting and would instruct an ACP to disseminate information on the the robbery and shooting incident.

    At press time, no information was received from the police.

    The robbery and shooting of Frederick ‘Gabby’ James come on the heels of the death of self-employed Refrigerator Technician Albert Myers, who was gunned down in his Lower Stoney Grove home in Charlestown, Nevis on Friday (Aug. 7).

    Another businessman, Ernest ‘Gray Patch’ Hendricks of Palmetto Point, was shot by a bandit in the early morning of Wednesday (Jun. 24) and died some 13 days after at the JNF Hospital.

    Armed robberies also took place in downtown Basseterre and at Conyers.

    At about 12:28 on Wednesday (Jul. 29), an employee of Domino’s Pizza was robbed when he and a security officer were on their way to deposit an undisclosed sum of money at the First Caribbean Bank for the business establishment.

    And three days after, a gun-toting bandit had robbed the driver of one of Island Bakeries’ delivery van while serving customers in the Conyers area.
