BASSETERRE, St. Kitts – TWO women were struck by vehicles today (Aug. 10) in separate incidents and had to be taken to the hospital for treatment.

The first of the incidents occurred on Lower Delisle Street (which runs between KFC and Courts Ltd.). According to the Traffic Department, it involved motor jeep PA2001 – owned and driven by Shenouda Newman of Bay View, Camps – and Shevon Fredericks of Farm Site, Sandy Point.

The Traffic Department reported that at about 9:50 a.m., Fredericks was walking southward along the road when PA2001 came from the same direction and struck her from behind, pushing her to the ground.

She reportedly complained of pain to her head, neck and posterior.

An Emergency Medical Services unit was summoned to the scene and transported Fredericks to the Joseph N. France General Hospital.

The second incident occurred at the junction of Fort and Cayon Streets at about 11:20 a.m.

The Department informed that Ideta Mercer of Tabernacle was walking southward along the pedestrian crossing, which sits between Subway and Chester’s Chicken, when motor vehicle PA7242 – owned and driven by Elton Adams of Bay View, Camps – took a right turn to exist Fort Street onto Cayon Street and struck her in the process.

Mercer reportedly complained of pain to her knees and left arm and was transported to the Hospital by the same vehicle.

    Both incidents are being investigated.

The Traffic Department has issued a reminder for both motorists and pedestrians to be alert when traversing the Federation’s highways and byways and to use them cautiously.
