BASSETERRE, St. Kitts - A number of former members of the Royal St. Christopher and Nevis Police Force’s High Command have indicated that they are in support of the organisation’s initiative to tap into the expertise of retired and resigned members of the organization.

Sometime last week, the Police Force issued a press release requesting former officers to attend a meeting to be held tomorrow (Aug. 12) at the Police Training School, where crime-fighting initiatives would be discussed in addition to possibly gathering their support for this new thrust.

SKNVibes spoke with Retired Assistant Commissioner of Police Joseph Liburd, who indicated that it is “a very good idea”, welcomes it and would attend the meeting.

Contact was also made with Retired Commissioner of Police Robert Jeffers who also classified the idea as a “good one” and indicated that he too has intentions of attending the meeting.

“I think that those of us who are retired have a lot of experiences that we could probably share with the younger ones…So I don’t think it is a bad idea…”

Giving a peek into the suggestions he would be willing to make, Jeffers said the pattern which has been implemented by police stations in England should be adopted by the Federation.

He explained that in order to increase police presence on the streets, the guardrooms should be manned by civilians to allow for officers who normally work there make their presence known on the streets.

In a previous interview with this publication, Acting Commissioner of Police Stafford Liburd expressed his expectation that the current officers would be molded by the experiences of the former members.

“There are a number of former officers who possess a wealth of knowledge, and such knowledge is important to share with the present serving members of the Police Force. Also, we believe that they can add in assisting us in our present Six-Point Plan.

“We believe that they can share and help to mold a number of our junior officers. Along with that, it is important that we continue building a relationship with the public…and the public includes those officers.”
