BASSETERRE, St. Kitts – COME September 2015, it is expected that the Basseterre High School (BHS) will be operating under different leadership as the Principal of the learning institution, Carlene Henry-Morton, has taken up duties as a senior officer in the Ministry of Tourism.

SKNVibes understands that Morton began her tenure yesterday (Aug. 10) as Permanent Secretary in the Ministry of Tourism, officially ending her 33-year career in education.

Morton expressed her willingness to take on this new challenge, noting that she is confident that the leadership skills she developed and tweaked during her career in education would greatly enhance her current appointment.

She said her strong work ethic, collaborative approach and good human relations, “which is the bedrock of everything we do”, are some of the positive attributes with which she enters the tourism industry.

With the beginning of a new chapter in her life, Morton said she still has a passion for the Basseterre High School and would continue to follow up on the situation there, agitate for a change in circumstances and ask questions to ensure that she is aware of what is transpiring at the place she called home for so many years.

On condition of anonymity, SKNVibes spoke with a number of individuals, who unanimously expressed their belief that because of her experience in daily coordinating the affairs of 800-plus students and 60-plus staffers, among other things, Morton is more than capable of successfully completing her tasks as Permanent Secretary.

The new school year is expected to begin in less than a month’s time and the question now being asked is, “Who would be appointed Principal of the Basseterre High School?”
