CHARLESTOWN, Nevis – THE Nevis Cultural Centre came alive with the sound of melodious young voices as the Nevis Boys Choir held its Easter Recital, dubbed “Christ is Risen”, on Sunday, April 12.

Under the guidance of Judy Archer, coordinator of the choir, the boys serenaded their parents and members of the public with solos, duets and group selections with an Easter theme.

There were also renditions on the steel pan by 12-year-old Brendan Claxton, and Jack Ngumbah also played his part, but on the keyboard. There was also a dance by Shanroy Caesar and poems by Damari Mitchell and Leandra Claxton.

The boys were joined in singing by Kurvin Wallace and Company, the Gingerland Boys Choir, the Covenant Boys, and Odito Morton.

Among the songs rendered were Amazing Grace, Sing Because I’m Happy, Above All, Ancient of Days, You Raised Me Up, the Easter Song and Oh Happy Day.

Archer was also honored with a special gift which was presented by Akoyah Simon on behalf of the boys.

Archer told SKNVibes that the boys should be back on stage in December in neighboring St. Maarten. She is however hoping to stage another local production before returning to the Dutch territory where they first appeared last December.

The choir, which is one of the projects of the Department of Social Services, caters for boys between the ages of seven and 14 years. However, according to Archer, some of the boys are now older but are in no hurry to leave.

Archer added that the boys are not only taught how to sing but also about self-esteem and overall holistic development. She noted that most of them play cricket and football.

The production was the second by the group following its 2007 inauguration.
