CHARLESTOWN, Nevis – GUYANESE were out in their dozens to participate in the entertainment and frolic that has become a tradition at the annual Easter Monday Fun Day organised by the Nevis chapter of the Guyanese Association.

The venue was the Villa grounds in Charlestown, where revellers indulged in food, drink and play until into the evening hours. Along with the regular drinks, a variety of Guyanese food was on sale including the popular Pepperpot, Puri, White Pudding and Cook-up.

Patrons also played cricket – where the winning team collected a prize – football, dominoes, circle tennis and tug-o-war, while the younger ones indulged in the Bounce Castle.

Among the patrons were the Premier of Nevis, the Hon. Joseph Parry; Deputy Premier, the Hon. Hensley Daniel; and Guyana’s Honorary Consul to St. Kitts and Nevis, Stanford Conway, who is based on St. Kitts.

Meanwhile, Rueben Vyphuis was elected Chairman when the association held its elections recently. Elected to serve as Vice Chairman was Shevonne Lowe, Yolanda Lowe as Secretary-Treasurer, and Alvin Fraser as Assistant Secretary-Treasurer. The Committee Members are Eric Singh and Noel Dalton.

Apart from the Easter Monday Fun Day, the association also hosts an award ceremony in honor of Guyana’s Independence Anniversary on May 26. At the Independence Anniversary, the association honors a Guyanese who has made an outstanding contribution to the society. Students who are outstanding at CXC and CAPE are also honored in December.

The Association meets on the last Wednesday in every month at the Red Cross building in Charlestown. According to Vyphuis, resource personnel are invited to speak at the meet on a regular basis, and this month would see a representative of the Labour Department appearing.
