August 20th, 2015 -- The St. Kitts and Nevis soccer team continues to claim bragging rights as the "team to beat" during this year's annual Caribbean Cup Soccer Championship being held in Brooklyn New York.
The young men trounced their lightweight Dominican opponents four goals to nil on Sunday August 17, 2015 rendering an pressure performance before hundreds of supporters and soccer enthusiasts. Their convincing victory is a build up to what may be regarded as their biggest challenge for the year as they take on either Jamaica or St. Vincent on Sunday August 30, 2015.
Week after week, the youthful team of budding and seasoned players have captivated spectators with their brilliant soccer skills and authentic team spirit. A coach could not ask for a more unified team.
Word of their brilliant performance on the field as well as their winning streak, continues to spread throughout the Tri-State and the number of fans at the games are noticeably growing too.
Thanks in part to a solid coaching staff, a visionary SKNGSC-NY and a remarkably growing fan base, the seemingly well gelled group of players have made a name for St. Kitts and Nevis soccer by mercilessly pummeling their opponents. The youthful "Sugar Boyz" team, which was a top contender during the regular season, is now making waves as the playoffs heightens.
While most of the players reside in the New York area, reinforcements to the team have come by way of players residing at home.
Whatever formula has worked to bring this team of talented men together on the soccer field has gotten the nod of citizens residing in New York. Many came out last Sunday donning flags, scarves, shirts and hats bearing the St. Kitts and Nevis national flag. It was an extremely euphoric moment for citizens of the federation abroad.
The moment of victory sealed the confidence of fans and well wishers that the new look St. Kitts-Nevis soccer team can well be the next group of "Soccer Kings" in the prestigious Caribbean Cup Soccer Tournament.
Of notable mention is the exposure and subsequent academic opportunities the players are capitalizing on. Goal keeper Ian James has recently been accepted to Herkimer College in New York to pursue studies commencing this Fall.
The St. Kitts-Nevis Football Associaton, coaches and organizers from the SKNGSC-NY worked successfully to bring Ian James to New York to participate in the 2015 Caribbean Cup tournament. The experience and exposure has allowed James the opportunity to advance his soccer craft and to secure a promising future.
Life changing opportunities of this magnitude help to solidify the work being done by coaches, SKNFA, SKNSC-NY and the various individuals who are wholesomely committed to the sport of soccer.
