BASSETERRE, St. Kitts – THE parents of little Tu'Mani Alexander-Nisbett have expressed their gratefulness to all those who had financially contributed to the infant’s travel to Barbados, where he underwent a successful surgery procedure.

The infant, accompanied by his mother Jahdira Alexander of Shadwell and his grandmother, travelled to Barbados on August 5, 2015 and stayed there for a week while he underwent a medical procedure.

Prior to the procedure, he suffered from a condition where a build-up of fluid on his brain caused him to have seizures and should the liquid not be drained, he could be paralysed or become mentally challenged.

An appeal was made via this publication and across social media for the public to assist in sending the baby to Barbados for treatment.

Alexander, in an interview with SKNVibes, said she is more than grateful for the monetary assistance that the public provided which allowed for her to take her son overseas for medical treatment.

She explained that Tu-Mani received a “V P stunt” which, according to www.healthline.com, is “a surgical procedure that is primarily used to treat a condition called hydrocephalus, which occurs when excess cerebrospinal fluid (CSF) collects in the brain's ventricles.”

She said the procedure was performed at Queen Elizabeth’s Hospital in St. Michael’s and that his condition has improved to the point where the seizures are not occurring as frequently as they previously did and Tu’Mani is not crying as much as before.

His progress, however, have to be monitored, and as Alexander indicated it might become necessary for her baby boy to receive additional treatment.

She however reiterated her gratitude to the public for its invaluable support.
