BASSETERRE, St. Kitts – POPULAR former calypsonian, comedian and host of countless calypso and other local shows Reginald Thomas, fondly known as ‘Calypso Reggie’, passed away this morning (Sept. 16).

Information reaching SKNVibes states that the cultural and entertainment icon died at about 5:00 a.m. today at Joseph N France Hospital after he reportedly fell ill a few days earlier.

Apart from hosting calypso and other local shows in which there was never a dull moment for patrons with his comedic input, Calypso Reggie’s main source of income was similar to that of the ancient ‘town-crier’ in England.

Driving through all the communities of St. Kitts and using a PA system, Calypso Reggie would communicate with the populace by informing them of various social functions, entertainment and sports events, political and other meetings.

This was done with such clarity that every man, woman and child would know of his arrival within their respective community, which was heralded by the sound of calypsos, some of his own, and the famous statement: “I like dat.”

The Tabernacle resident was also a politician and had named himself the “Minister of Roads without pay”.

He had contested as an Independent in the 2010 General Elections for the seat in Constituency Number Seven which was won by now Prime Minister, Dr. the Hon. Timothy Harris.

The management and staff of SKNVibes join with the many people of St. Kitts and Nevis in offering sincerest condolences to the spouse, children and other family members as well as close friends of Reginald ‘Calypso Reggie Thomas on his passing.
