JAMKIT’S St. Kitts & Nevis Independence and Heroes’ Day message 2015

JamKit President-Carol Phillips
By: JAMKIT, Press Release

    Basseterre, St Kitts; 19 September 2015:  On this day, Saturday, 19 September 2015, the Members of the Jamaican Kittitian (JamKit) Association, the Association of Jamaicans and friends of Jamaicans living in the Federation of St Kitts & Nevis, pause to extend greetings to the people of the Federation of St. Christopher (Kitts) and Nevis, on the celebration of the Nation’s 32nd Anniversary of Political Independence.

    On this commemorative day, JamKit acknowledges the considerable accomplishment that this is in the life of your young Nation. This national milestone speaks to a maturing of the democratic process, an ingenuity of creative output and a resilience of social effort that is commendable.

    Having only a few weeks ago basked in the euphoria of the celebration of Jamaica’s own 53rd  Anniversary of Political Independence, JamKit Members are truly appreciative of the opportunity to share in the experience of joy and pride that is part of this year’s SKN Celebrations.  We hasten to reciprocate the warmth that was extended to our people, in the truest sense of regional integration, and we hope that yours will be a truly wonderful observance.

    The Association also recognizes the celebration of the Nation’s National Heroes Day on Wednesday, 16 September 2015 and acknowledges, with great reverence, the many contributions made to nation-building in the Federation by its eminent National Heroes:

    1.      The Right Excellent Sir Robert Llewellyn Bradshaw – First National Hero and Father of Independent St. Christopher and Nevis;
    2.      The Right Excellent Sir Caleb Azariah Paul Southwell – Former Chief Minister and Titan of the Industrial Movement;
    3.      The Right Excellent Sir Joseph N. France – Former Minister of Government and Social Advocate;
    4.      The Right Excellent Sir. Simeon Daniel – Former Legal Luminary, Political Trailblazer and Veritable Father of Modern Nevis

    Their luminary lives of service, dedication and outreach remain beacons of the traits that can serve well all onlookers, as the Federation moves into a more mature phase of its political life. JamKit also acknowledges the many other unsung heroes, whose contributions have perhaps gone unnoticed in some respects, but whose efforts have been significant in helping to engender positive social development in the Federation.  Indeed, from various political dispensations, religious affiliations, service club affiliations and ideological bents, their input into the life of this Federation has been both far reaching and impactful, and we commend their assistance in the establishment of a productive national space.

    It must be noted, however, that there continues to be challenges along the way.  There is no easy road ahead for the Nation in its movement towards higher heights and greater development.  The Association hopes that the path will become clearer as the Federation becomes more confident in its political development and moves towards greater accomplishments along the way.  JamKit extends every wish for continued improvement in the quality of life of the Federation’s people:  particularly its children, women, young men, and the elderly.

    We proffer our warmest sentiments for this extended celebration of National Heroes Day and the 32nd Anniversary of Political Independence, and hope that blessings shall, in the Federation, truly ‘to posterity extend’.

    “One Love”
