BASSETERRE, St. Kitts (10:30 p.m.) – WHILE applications for bail made by Tenielle Percival and Greg Williamson were denied, their co-accused, Kenrick Simmonds, was granted bail in the amount of EC$1,000,000.

The men appeared at the District ‘A’ Magistrate’s Court this afternoon (Oct. 5) before Her Honour Josephine Mallelieu-Webbe.

Simmonds was granted bail with each of the two sureties bearing EC$500,000 of the bail sum.

He was ordered to surrender his travel documents and to report to the Basseterre Police Station on Fridays.

The other two were remanded to Her Majesty’s Prison.

BASSETERRE, St. Kitts (2:16 p.m.) – AS was widely speculated, Kenrick Simmonds has been confirmed as one of the three individuals officially charged in connection with a sting operation that took place late last week at Conaree Beach.

A police press release issued this morning (Oct. 5), explains that Simmonds was “charged and cautioned for the offences of Obstruction under the Electronic Crimes Act and Incite to Import under the Drug Act”.

Another of the individuals, Tenielle ‘Blaze’ Percival of Lime Kiln, was “arrested and charged for the offences of possession of a controlled drug, possession with intent to supply and importation of controlled drug”.

The other individual, Greg Williamson, was reportedly “charged and cautioned” for "possession of a controlled drug, possession with intent to supply and importation of controlled drug”.

The charges stem from an incident that occurred early Thursday morning (Oct. 1) in which 124 pounds of compressed marijuana was seized by the police. According to reports, the compressed marijuana had arrived at the Conaree Beach area by boat.

As a result of the operation, one of two occupants of the vessel was shot and killed by police. However, an autopsy is yet to be performed.

Yesterday, Acting Commissioner of Police Stafford Liburd told this publication that the next-of-kin of the deceased has been informed of his demise. However, his name is yet to be released.

This publication understands that application for bail was made by one or all of the accused.

The press release advises that investigations into the incident continue and “it is likely that more charges will be brought for all the persons”.
