    BASSETERRE, St. Kitts – KENRICK SIMMONDS, who is accused of being involved in a drug-related incident that took place last week at Conaree Beach, has been slapped with several additional charges.

    Initially, he was charged “for the offences of Obstruction under the Electronics Crime Act and Incite to import under the Drug Act” and his co-accused Tenielle ‘Blaze’ Percival of Lime Kiln and Greg Williamson of Antigua and Barbuda were both charged with possession of a controlled drug, possession with intent to supply and importation of a controlled drug, as was explained in an earlier police press release.

    It also indicated that investigations were ongoing and “it is likely that more charges will be brought for all the persons”.

    A communiqué issued today (Oct 9) informs that the full slate of charges brought against Simmonds is:

    1) Importation of Cannabis;
    2) Aid and Abet Tenille Percival in the commission of the offence of Importation of Cannabis;
    3)Aid and Abet Tenille Percival in the commission of the offence of possession of Cannabis with intent to supply to another;
    4) Aid and Abet Tenille Percival in the Commission of the Offence of Possession of Cannabis;
    5) Conspire with Greg Williamson to import Cannabis;
    6) Aid and Abet Greg Williamson in the commission of the offence of Possession of Cannabis;
    7) Aid and Abet Greg Williamson in the commission of the offence of Possession of Cannabis with intent to supply to another; and
    8) Obstruction Under the Electronic Crime Act.

    This publication noted that the “incite to import under the Drug Act” offence with which Simmonds was charged is not listed among the aforementioned, which leaves one to conclude that it may have been removed or is subsumed within the other charges.

    The incident which led to the three men being charged took place during the early-morning hours of Thursday (Oct. 1) at Conaree Beach, where a vessel with two men entered the Federation’s waters and, according to police reports, they were challenged by police officers who conducted a sting operation.

    As a result of the challenge, one of the individuals aboard the vessel reportedly opened fire on the police and they responded in like manner, which resulted in one of them being fatally wounded.

    The police said that a pickup was on the beach during the incident and the two individuals who occupied it made an attempt to flee the area but were apprehended.

    Compressed marijuana with a street value of EC$930,000 was seized by the authorities and the three individuals were taken into police custody.

    EDITOR-IN-CHIEF’S NOTE: Ironically, on Monday (Oct. 5), Kenrick Simmonds was granted bail to the tune of EC$1M with EC$500,000 on each of the two sureties, but the police did not inform the media of the additional charges. However, it was subsequently learnt that while he was in Court for the bail hearing, police had served him with the additional charges.
