Harris’ Constituency #7 Basketball League Kicks Off Tonight

Harris Basketball League
By: SKNIS, Press Release

Basseterre, St. Kitts, October 10, 2015 (SKNIS)—The 12 year Harris’ Constituency #7 Basketball League kicks off tonight (October 10) in Molineux.

The League which started in the summer of 2003, has grown exponentially from 5 teams participating to 10 teams at one time participating in the much anticipated annual tournament. This year, there are 8 participating teams.

However, this year is special with a refurbished and resurfaced brand new court with non-skid material, new installed bleachers, NBA standard poles, rings and glass backboards. There are also new bathroom facilities. In 2007, the league had electronic score boards and official gears.

Since the inception of the league, several players have gone on to make the national team including the 2014 Most Valuable Player Nashorn Maynard. Other notable players selected for the national team are Quincy Taylor, Troy Wattley, Sylvester White, Cameron Matthew, and Dijon Bedford.

Prime Minister of St. Kitts and Nevis and Parliamentary Representative for Constituency 7, Dr. the Honourable Timothy Harris, has been the major sponsor of the league for the past 11 years.

This year’s opening ceremony, which starts at 6pm, will feature the prize-giving ceremony for the 2014 season and several keynote speakers including Prime Minister Harris.

Chairman of the Harris Constituency #7 Basketball League Organizing Committee, Crace Lewis, said he was very excited about this year’s league even though it is off to a later start.

“This is the people’s league and hundreds of persons will come out to watch the games as usual. The league has been great for community development and cohesion,” Mr. Lewis said.

Mr. Lewis said that several persons who have worked hard to make the league a success include Carla Carty, Cecile Byron, Clive Gardener, Teveran Bedford, Nigel Burroughs, Eldon Harris and Samuel Caines.

Live entertainment will be provided by Grand Masters with performances by Highlight, RB The Mayor and IMark.

The first two games to kick off are Inner City Ballers vs Ottleys and Strivers vs Ballaholics.
