BASSETERRE, St. Kitts - ST. KITTS Calypso Monarch, Konris ‘King Konris’ Maynard has been the recipient of a number of accolades for his musical accomplishments from two magazines and one daily newspaper in the Caribbean.

In one of the magazines, Caribbean Beat, Gary Stickles noted that the best soca and calypso in the world these days are coming out of St. Kitts and Nevis.

The magazine also stated that Maynard possesses musical accomplishments that are remarkable, even by the standards of what people are already starting to think of as a new golden age of soca and calypso in the tiny Eastern Caribbean islands.

Meanwhile, an article in Stabroek News, headlined “Troubled thoughts on calypso”, has added props to King Konris and the smaller Caribbean islands that have been displaying great showmanship in calypso music, giving places like Trinidad a run for what they are popularly known for.

Lime Online magazine describes Maynard as a classic example of a world class calypsonian emerging out of the smaller Caribbean islands.

SKNVibes contacted the four-peat Calypso Monarch to learn of his feelings on being featured in the articles.

Maynard said that he felt proud and privileged, noting “as anyone would be, I am thrilled to be mentioned in such a way”.

“I feel privileged to have found favour with such an esteem writer and music connoisseur. It provides impetus for me to want to achieve more and prove that his words may have some truth in them,” he said.

He also expressed his pleasure at providing an avenue in which the Federation could get more exposure, noting, “I am just one of many hidden talents we have here on the islands. We have much to offer and this is way for the region and the world to get a sneak preview of what is to come”.
