Hailing from Loiza, Puerto Rico, Abrante began his musical career at five years old as part of his church’s band as a percussiont. At the tender age of 11 and 12, he took a strong interest in reggaeton and began to write music to break in. At the age of 15, Abrante discoverd La Bomba, a genre cultural rhythm characteristic from Puerto Rican people. He gained success by playing La Bomba, and he formed his own band, Bataklan, and organized a United States and Puerto Rico tour.
At the age of 19, he worked with Tego Calderon in his record production “El Abayarde” and he was one of Tego’s backing singers until 2009. This gave Abrante the opportunity to travel extensively with his music. During that time, Abrante became featured in other productions like “Sangre Nueva”, “Sueños de Grandeza”, “Los Cazadores”, “Real” de Ivy Queen, “Flow La Discoteca 2”, “El Underdog”, “Las Gárgolas etc.
Abrante’s current project LA TRIBU DE ABRANTE melds traditional Puerto Rican music with Abrante’s passion for reggaeton, to create a sound that will appeal to audiences both Latino and Caribbean alike. Abrante truly represents the fusion that will make all of us deeply feel – and dance to – the rhythms we Latin and West Indian persons have in common. Do not miss La Tribu de Abrante on Sunday during Latin Fiesta!
