By: SKNIS, Press Release

Basseterre, St. Kitts, October 22, 2015 (SKNIS): Premier of Nevis, Honourable Vance Amory, has assured that the policies of the Government of National Unity will be in the best interest of all the people of St. Kitts and Nevis as members of the Federal Cabinet are committed to working with each other.

The success of major policy initiatives to date including the removal of the Value Added Tax (VAT) from food, medicines and funeral expenses; the compensation to former sugar workers under the Sugar Workers Restoration Fund (SWRF); and reforms to the Citizenship by Investment Programme were mentioned by Premier Amory during the radio programme “Working for You” this week. He credited the leadership style and strength of character of St. Kitts and Nevis Prime Minister, Dr. the Honourable Timothy Harris, in leading the Cabinet.

Premier Amory reflected on a time when Dr. Harris was in Government and he (Amory) in opposition in the Federal Parliament.

“I always found Dr. Harris to be someone open to discussion on any issue which is of national interest and working with him in Cabinet, I find that he is very capable of grasping the issues in a holistic way,” Premier Amory said, referring to his experience as a Senior Minister in the Cabinet. “He’s easy to discuss and talk with.

He has in my opinion, a genuine interest in the welfare of the people of St. Kitts and Nevis, and in terms of his knowledge of government and his knowledge of what needs to be done in terms of creating policies, I feel that he is very capable of directing the process over the next so many years. I have every respect for his ability and I do believe that the Prime Minister will continue to do a good job.”

The Senior Minister pledged that he will continue to support Prime Minister Harris and fulfill his role as a member of the Government of St. Kitts and Nevis.
