Basseterre, St. Kitts, - Tuesday 27th October, 2015: The 2014 Primary School Football Champions were recent recipients of football kits donated by The Project P.O.E.T.R.Y Initiative. On Wednesday 21st October, members of this social outreach group visited the Bronte Welsh Primary School to make the presentation before staff & students during their morning general assembly.
The Project P.O.E.T.R.Y Initiative, in its mission of “Putting Our Energies Toward Refocusing Youth,” made this donation in conjunction with the start of the 2015 Primary School Football Competition.
“The Project P.O.E.T.R.Y Initiative congratulates the staff, students and specifically the young football team on your achievements in last year’s Primary School Football Competition and we hope that our donation toward will help you to recapture the title again this year,” said Samal Duggins, Chairperson of Island Xpressions & The Project P.O.E.T.R.Y Initiative.
During the handover ceremony he also stressed on the importance of hard work and dedication in not only sports but also education. In accepting the football kits of balls and field equipment, Principal of the Bronte Welsh Primary School, Mr. Virgil Jeffers thanked Duggins and The Project P.O.E.T.R.Y Initiative for “recognizing the talents of the promising footballers at the school and making a tangible donation to the team that will help in their efforts to remain champions in 2015.”
The Project P.O.E.T.R.Y team did not leave the school without some interaction with the soon-to-be 2015 Primary School Football Champions. The captain of the team was challenged by Mr. Duggins to display his skills by performing 20 ‘keep-ups’ before the assembled students and other teammates. He boldly accepted the challenge and easily won, proving that he is ready to take on any challenge or contender in this year’s competition.
The Project P.O.E.T.R.Y Initiative endeavours to continue making contributions across the Federation to empower youth. This recent donation to the Bronte Welsh Primary School comes shortly after the launch of The Project P.O.E.T.R.Y High School Competition to be held on November 28th, 2015 under the theme “Re-imagining & Re-shaping Our Education System.”
