St. Kitts-Nevis Seeks to Develop Yachting Sector

By: St. Kitts Tourism Authority, Press Release

BASSETERRE (29TH October, 2015): The St. Kitts Tourism Authority will host a Yachting Development Forum to bring together tourism stakeholders to discuss the challenges and opportunities related to the further development and growth of the yachting sector.

The Yachting Forum will take place on Tuesday 3rd November, 2015, from 8:30am to 3:30pm in the conference room of the Ocean Terrace Inn.

Minister of Tourism, International Trade, Industry & Commerce, The Hon. Lindsay F.P. Grant, said that the primary objective of the forum is to discuss and strategise on ways to create a strong revenue stream by developing a varied, high quality yachting product and related services sectors.

“It is the intention of the Ministry of Tourism that our yachting sub-sector will generate new opportunities for full participation and investment by nationals and local communities in the production and delivery of goods and services, as well as providing careers, decent work, and sound livelihoods for residents, “ Minister Grant said . “Also, this sector should be capable of delivering a superior and sustainable yachting experience to all yachts-persons visiting our shores.”

Statistics from the Eastern Caribbean Central Bank, the Review of Yachting in St Kitts 2012, undertaken by the Department of Maritime Affairs show that the yachtsperson is a high-spend tourist and that the revenues generated by yachting exceed those of the cruise tourism.

The St. Kitts-Nevis Yachting Development Forum is open to all stakeholders in the yachting sector. Interested individuals and organisations are asked to email Kira.Purcell@stkittstourism.kn, to confirm attendance.
