Police Press Release: Respect and cooperation; key elements for strong teams

By: RSCNPF, Press Release

Basseterre, St. Kitts, November 05, 2015 (RSCNPF) -- A demonstration of respect and cooperation was showcased before 115 Police Officers on Wednesday (November 4th) during the Commissioner's Lecture when Police Superintendents Mitchell and Smithen openly praised each other's team, the Special Services Unit and the Forensics Services Unit for their support in the ongoing fight against crime.

Superintendent Andre Mitchell in giving a brief overview to the gathering said, "it is not an easy undertaking."  He went on to say, "the world is more dangerous and more complex, and more in need of persons, who are willing to go the extra mile to bring solutions to problems which often seem intractable." He then commended the Special Services Unit, the Criminal Investigations Department and the Forensics Services Unit for their dedication and support to his team in the fight against crime.

The Superintendent then reflected on something he said he wished he didn't have to do,  "it's not easy for me and my team to see people dying, not an easy sight to see young people clinging to life while they await the arrival of the Emergency Medical Services at these crime scenes."

Mitchell then turned to the members of training class "40" and welcomed them to the Force by saying, "this is noble service, you have vested your interest in right over wrong. Be disciplined and be committed."

Head of the Criminal Investigations Department Superintendent Charles Smithen commended the Special Services Unit by saying, they are called upon at a moment's notice in the most difficult circumstances and are always professional and give their best. He commended the Violent Crimes Unit for their continued vigilance in these challenging times. "We have some of the best crime scene technicians in the region",  he said, as he heaped praise on the Forensics Services Unit.  "Let's continue to work as a team, " he told the assembled group.

Looking at the 32 recruits of training class "40", the seasoned Officer said,  "you have joined a noble institution, you are the Gazetted  Officers of the future, embrace your training, you have our support."

The Commissioner's Lecture provides a wholesale opportunity for leadership and the rank and file to interact and engage in frank and open dialogue about the issues confronting the organization.
