Basseterre, St. Kitts, November 04, 2015 (SKNIS)—Prime Minister of the Federation of St. Kitts and Nevis, Dr. the Honourable Timothy Harris, has extended hearty congratulations to Antigua and Barbuda on the attainment of its 34 years as a sovereign nation.
This year, Antigua and Barbuda celebrates its independence under the theme “Antigua and Barbuda, Rebuilding with Unity and Purpose.”
In a congratulatory letter to Antigua and Barbuda’s Prime Minister, Honourable Gaston Browne, who is the 4th prime minister of Antigua and Barbuda and the Leader of the Antigua Labour Party, Dr. Harris said that he looked forward to continuing and fostering a close relationship with the neighboring country.
“I avail myself of this significant anniversary to reiterate the determination of my recently elected Government, to continue working closely on matters of mutual and common interest, not only on a sub-regional level, but also regionally and internationally,” said Prime Minister Harris on behalf of the Government and people of St. Kitts and Nevis to Prime Minister Browne, who is 48 years old and holds a first degree in Banking, and an MBA in Finance from the University of Manchester.
“It is my fervent hope that the mutual bonds shared by our countries will be maintained and strengthened even as we achieve new heights and face the many unforeseen challenges unique to our region,” he said, while offering best wishes for the personal well-being and the continued prosperity of the twin-island nation.
Antigua and Barbuda became an independent nation on November 1, 1981. Because this year Independence Day fell on a Sunday, the holiday was celebrated on Monday, November 2.
