BASSETERRE, St. Kitts – IF asked to work from Sunday to Sunday, she does it without a murmur. And if asked to work overtime, she does it willingly and her efficiency is second to none. With these qualities, one wonders why Tonica ‘Saffie’ Fahie was so surprised after learning that she was named KajolaKristada’s September 2015 Employee of the Month (EoM).
Picture, if you will, the members of the Employee of the Month Committee making their way along the plant floor, bobbing and weaving through the different Lines making joyous noise with the aid of a tambourine and makeshift instruments, all to declare that the Employee of the Month was selected.
Bear in mind that all members of the Committee are aware of who the awardee is but, just to allow the anticipation to mount, they twice passed Fahie, who works on the Surface Mount Line, without she realising that she was the chosen one.
Fahie, who resides at Upper Monkey Hill, told SKNVibes that while this process was taking place she was having a conversation with her colleagues and they were tossing around names of who they suspected was the winner. She said her name came up but she brushed it aside.
Her curiosity was piqued when the train of merrymakers passed her the second time and she admitted that she looked to see at whose station it would stop. And before they stopped she had already settled back into getting her work done.
Her supervisor, Valarie Adams, recalled that when Fahie learnt she was named EoM, she was overcome with joy, evidenced by tears.
“We passed through the cell twice. When we got to the Employee of the Month, everyone would gather around and stand and play the tambourine and so on. When we stopped by her, she was getting up out of the chair, so someone put her back to sit down and then we realise she was shedding a lot of tears.”
And in Fahie’s words, “I didn’t expect it, I didn’t expect it at all!”
Proud of her accomplishment, Fahie said she had already informed her three children and that her confidence level has been elevated to the point where she knows she could win the title again.
“She was chosen because of the fabulous job that she does for two cells. Sometimes when we have three cells, she is the packer for all three. And she still assists the Line leader in running the cells and she manages to get all of it done on time. She is very efficient, is always on time, has a good attitude and everything.
“On behalf of myself, your Line leader and the rest of the staff of SMT, we want to congratulate you on becoming the Employee of the Month for September, and keep up the good work,” Adams encouraged.
