Remembrance Day Parade and Religious Service to be held on Sunday, November 8

    Basseterre, St. Kitts, November 06, 2015 (SKNIS): The National Day of Remembrance for the Great Wars of 1914 to 1918 and 1939 to 1945 will be observed on Sunday, November 8, 2015. 

     

    Prime Minister of the Federation of St. Kitts and Nevis, Dr. the Honourable Timothy Harris; His Excellency the Governor General, Mr. Tapley Seaton Q.C.; Members of the Cabinet, Members of the Diplomatic Corps; Government Officials, and Civic Organization Heads and Members of the General Public will be in attendance. 

    An Interdenominational Religious Service and a Military Parade will be held at the War Memorial, Fort Lands, Basseterre, at 8:00 am on that day. The St. Kitts-Nevis Defence Force (SKNDF) and the Royal St. Christopher and Nevis Police Force (RSCNPF) will parade.

    Various Uniformed Services and Civic Organizations are expected to participate. Some of the denominations that will participate in the Interdenominational Religious Service are the Salvation Army, the Methodist Church, the Moravian Church, the Anglican Church and the Evangelical Association.

    Twenty men from St. Kitts, Nevis and Anguilla gave their lives in the Great War of 1914-1918. They include Joseph Cephus, James Daniel, Arthur Dickenson, Donald Edwards, MC, H D Edwards, DSO, John Foreman, Edmund Gordon, H Herbert Jones, James L E R Lake, Joseph Lewis, Joseph McKoy, Edward Mills, Hubert Mitchell, Donald Patrice, Edward Hope Ross, Horace Veira, Ivor Wakefield, William C Wattley, Richard White and Robert Woolward.  

    Six persons gave their lives in the Great War of 1939 to 1945. These include J E Alves DFM; Peter Berkley; Sydney Delisle; AE Farara; G G H Farara; DFC, DFM; and Basil Viera, DFC.
