Basseterre, St. Kitts, November 06, 2015 (SKNIS): November 03, 2015, marked the official ground breaking ceremony of the Customs House at Christophe Harbour, a significant step in the thrust towards a “lucrative and vibrant yachting sector” says Minister of Tourism Honourable Lindsay Grant.
The facility will house customs and security officers when yachts dock at the marina.
Minister Grant explained that officers of the Custom House will perform the necessary checks to ensure that the borders of St. Kitts are safe. This, he said, is vital to the enjoyment and comfort of life in the country.
The minister stated that Christophe Harbour Marina has 250 berths which can accommodate super and mega yachts and asserted that “exciting times await us as we pursue this potentially lucrative gold mine!”
“We therefore encourage our people and the private sector to capitalize on the many new opportunities that abound,” stated the minister. “Come up with creative and workable ideas that will help to further stimulate the local business sector.”
The minister added that he commends Christophe Harbour on the noteworthy achievement and that the government is committed to “doing all in our power to realize significant expansion in the yachting industry.”
