BASSETERRE, St. Kitts – IN fulfilment of the promise made at the Press Conference held in Charlestown on Monday (Oct. 19) that the Police Force is transparent, has nothing to hide and would keep the public informed, this publication was told that another member of the organisation is facing disciplinary charges and was recently suspended.

Speaking with the Assistant Commissioner of Police with responsibility for Crime, Ian Queeley, SKNVibes was told that the officer is Sergeant Fitzroy Morton and that he was slapped with three charges.

“Sergeant Morton was charged about three weeks ago. The police had reason to make investigations into a report made against him and the Office of Professional Standards conducted the enquiries.

“As a result, he received three disciplinary charges – corrupt practice, discreditable conduct and making a false statement. He has been placed on suspension with half pay pending the determination of those charges.”

ACP Queeley reiterated the High Command’s, in particular, and the Police Force as a whole, position on indiscipline and other infarctions of the organisation’s rules and regulations, noting that “the Royal St. Christopher and Nevis Police Force has nothing to hide. We remain transparent and will always provide the public with information on what we did and are doing, because we are here to serve and protect”.

He also said that members of the public should not hesitate to report any misgiving they would have observed perpetrated by members of the Force.

Sergeant Morton is the second member of the Police Force to have been charged with disciplinary offences and suspended over the past six weeks.

The first was Constable Randolph Diamond who allegedly twice shot security guard Steadroy ‘Seamoss’ Sutton on Pinney’s Beach, Nevis on Saturday (Sept. 19).

Investigations were conducted by both the Violent Crimes Unit and the Office of Professional Standards, which resulted in him being arrested and charged with wounding with intent after the report of the investigations was forwarded to the Office of the Director of Public Prosecutions for review.
