Basseterre, St. Kitts, November 11, 2015 (SKNIS)—Friday of last week (November 06), the formal meeting of the Cabinet took place. The meeting was chaired by the Prime Minister, Dr. the Honourable Timothy Harris.
1. Cabinet approved the signing of a Memorandum of Understanding (MOU) with the Canadian Commercial Corporation with respect to the building of a new cruise ship pier.
2. Cabinet considered the bills to be proposed for the next sitting of Parliament on Tuesday, November 17, 2015
3. Cabinet approved concessions to small businesses.
4. Prime Minister, the Honourable Dr. Timothy Harris, informed Cabinet of matters discussed at the recently held Monetary Council Meeting of the Eastern Caribbean Currency Union (ECCU) which will have an impact on the Federation’s banking sector, the Foreign Accountant Tax Compliance Act (FATCA) Bill, the Banking Bill and monetary issues which the Eastern Caribbean Central Bank (ECCB) will have to address in the short to medium term.
5. Cabinet gave approval for the Royal St. Christopher and Nevis Police Force (RSCNPF) to establish a technology operations department which will enhance the ability of the police to detect and prevent crime. Officers have already been sent off for training.
6. Cabinet approved five (5) bills and seven resolutions to be presented to Parliament on November 17, 2015.
