Police Press Release: PM Harris deems Forensics Services Unit tour as “a learning and instructive experience”

    Basseterre, St. Kitts, November 13, 2015 (RSCNPF): Accepting an invitation from the Public Relations Department of the Royal St. Christopher and Nevis Police Force, Prime Minister of St. Kitts and Nevis Dr. the Hon. Timothy Harris, visited and toured the Forensic Services Unit of which he deemed a “learning and instructive experience”.

     

    The tour which took place  on Thursday (November 12 ) at the Forensic Services Unit offices at Police Headquarters, Lozack Road, was led by Mr. Ancil Alexander, Head of the Unit.

    The Prime Minister had the opportunity to visit the different offices and view the many functionalities that falls under the supervision of Mr. Alexander; such as police records, ballistics,  double casting serial number restoration and firearm identification, Crime scene, fingerprinting, the evidence room, chemical processing 

    In thanking the Prime Minister for his visit, Mr. Alexander informed him of what’s expected in the future for the unit. “We intend to add more offices to our Forensic Unit; Serology and in the future we hope to only send the DNA evidence away. So we’re not only saving the government money but providing a proper service as a forensic unit should.”

    He added, “We now have the capability of providing sound evidence to a number of cases. So far we have been able to provide the court with the proper guidance, proper case review files and proper photos, because the officers are trained; we are training them constantly. We expect more from them, we demand when they go out, they be professional, collect the evidence and make sure everything they do complies with the law.”
