Footballs and Equipment for the Children

By: EMU, Press Release

(EMU) – St. Kitts, November, 16, 2015: The Early Childhood Development Unit is once again in receipt of donations from the St. Kitts and Nevis Football Association (SKNFA).

In partnership with the St. Kitts and Nevis Football Association (SKNFA), The International Federation of Association Football (FIFA) and Confederation of North, Central American and Caribbean Association Football (CONCACAF) have donated footballs and equipment to Government Pre-Schools to aid in the playing and development of the sport.

Mr. Dexter Tyrell, Manager at the SKNFA, chaired the ceremony which was held on Friday 13th November.  Technical Director of SKNFA, Mr. Lenny Lake presented the donation to Ms. Andrea Liddie, Resource Teacher at the Early Childhood Development Unit.

Mr. Lenny Lake explained, that this was not the first time the SKNFA has partnered with the Early Childhood Unit by donating equipment.  He further expounded, “FIFA has started a programme called grassroots, it’s really targeting children and that’s boys and girls, six through twelve. But I know that these children are either three, four, five. So why are we getting them involved? We have to make sure that they don’t wait until primary school to start to like to play football.  We want to be able to say to them you can kick a ball and have fun like any child in primary school and enjoy the game. It’s not about teaching the skills at this age, but more about bringing a smile to the children.”

In accepting the donation, on behalf of Early Childhood, Ms. Liddie expressed her appreciation, “We want to say, on behalf of Early Childhood that we are very much appreciative of your thought and your gesture of partnering with us once more in developing the children’s physical development by donating the footballs that you have prepared for us.”

Mr. Lake assured the Early Childhood Development Unit that the aim of the SKNFA is to provide footballs and the respective equipment to all the preschools on the island. Preschools being the first to receive the donations only seemed fitting.

“I can assure you that the children in the private schools (preschools) won’t be left out we would do this again with them so that all children across St. Kitts and of course Nevis do have a chance to play football.”
