BASSETERRE, St. Kitts – THE Special Services Unit (SSU) of the Royal St. Christopher and Nevis Police Force continues to score very valuable points in the removal of illegal firearms and ammunition of the Federation’s streets.

This publication learned that the most recent removal occurred on Friday (Nov. 20) night aback Conaree, a short distance from Half Moon Bay, where officers of the SSU chased after an individual and found a Taurus .40mm semi-automatic pistol with 15 matching rounds of ammunition that he discarded.

According to a police communiqué, the incident occurred at approximately 11:10 p.m. when the officers saw an unidentified male standing outside a certain property.

His behaviour aroused suspicion and the officers stopped and exited their patrol vehicle in an attempt to engage him, but he decided to run and the lawmen gave chase.

The communiqué also stated that during the chase, it was observed that he removed a shiny object from his waist and threw it in some nearby bushes.

Unfortunately, the man managed to eluded the officers but a search in the bushes “resulted in the find of one (1) Taurus .40mm Semi-Automatic pistol loaded with a magazine of 15 rounds of .40mm ammunition. The weapon has been taken into police custody for ballistic examination”.

This find brings to 19, the total amount of illegal firearms removed from the streets of St. Kitts and Nevis.

“The Royal St. Christopher and Nevis Police Force appreciates the assistance it has received from the public and urges citizens to continue to share any information they may have regarding criminal activity by calling any police station or Crime Stoppers at 1-800-8477(TIPS),” the communiqué stated.
