BASSETERRE, St. Kitts – AS gun-related incidents continue unabated in the Federation, members of the Royal St. Christopher and Nevis Police Force were busy over the weekend investigating a number of crimes including a shooting that allegedly took place in Sandy Point.
This incident allegedly took place along the Island’s Main Road in the Cleverly Hill area in Sandy Point at about 8:20 p.m. on Saturday (Nov. 21).
According to a communiqué, police received a report from the Pogson Hospital that a 22-year-old man was being treated at the medical institution for a gunshot injury.
Officers visited the hospital and interviewed the victim, who informed them that he was shot in his hand while walking along the Island’s Main Road in the Cleverly Hill area.
Various investigative arms of the Force, including the Violent Crimes Unit and the Forensic Services Unit visited the area where the young man said he was shot but found no evidence or indication of a shooting.
The officers also conducted house-to-house enquiries but the results were the same.
The victim was later transported to the JNF General Hospital, where he was further treated and discharged.
The communiqué also noted that the Assistant Commissioner of Police with responsibility for Crime, Ian Queeley, is seeking the public’s assistance into this alleged shooting incident as investigations are ongoing.
“I want to appeal to the community that if persons have any information that can assist the police in this crime, or any other crime to call any Police Station in the Federation or Crime Stoppers, our confidential hotline, at 1-800-8477 to share information. We have to stop this behaviour; it will only hurt our communities. Let us work hand in hand and take back our villages and our town.”
