17 September 2015 -- Ms. Siobhan Flax of the British Virgin Islands has been awarded a full scholarship through the Women in Diplomatic Service Organisation in London. The award is the first of its kind for the organisation and has been granted for the pursuit of a Master’s degree in Diplomacy, Statecraft and Foreign Policy at the Academy of Diplomacy and International Governance of Loughborough University London for the 2015/16 term.
Siobhan currently serves as the Cultural and Social Officer at the British Virgin Islands London Office where she has been posted for the past four years. Her goal is to deepen her knowledge of the wider field of international relations in support of her work in the area of cultural diplomacy.
Speaking about the scholarship award, Siobhan said “I am extremely honoured to have been selected as the successful candidate. As a woman seeking to advance in this field, this type of support is very welcome and will help me meet my career goals.”
Formed in 2002, Women in Diplomatic Service is a professional association for women working in the field of diplomacy in London. The association provides a platform for raising awareness, networking and cooperation.
This year the association partnered with Loughborough University of London to launch a full scholarship for a Master’s degree with the goal of promoting young women in diplomacy and their advancement into leadership positions in the field.
Loughborough University, which currently ranks as one of the top 15 Universities in the UK, opened its London postgraduate campus in September 2015. The University’s Academy of Diplomacy and International Governance offers MSc degrees in Diplomacy Business and Trade, Diplomacy Communication and Information Management, Diplomacy Statecraft and Foreign Policy and Security Peace-building and Diplomacy.
