Operation Future visits Irish Town, St. Theresa’s Primary Schools

By: Stanford Conway, SKNVibes

BASSETERRRE, St. Kitts – IN their continuous effort to provide positive influences for the nation’s youth, officers of Operation Future (OF) recently visited two more primary schools in St. Kitts.

According to a release from the Royal St. Christopher and Nevis Police Force’s Public Relations Department, officers of OP visited the Irish Town Primary School on Friday, April 24 and followed up with one to the St. Theresa’s Primary School yesterday (Apr. 27).

In what has now become a tradition, officers of OP took charge of the schools’ morning assembly session and spoke to the pupils on the dangers of drug use, gang-related activities and youth violence.

Popular WINN FM radio personality Andre ‘Magic Man’ Phipps, “who has now become one of the lead spokesperson for the group”, was also present at the schools. According to the release, he made “his usual presentation to the students conveying life experiences and challenging them to stay away from crime generally, and gangs in particular”.

Phipps also impressed upon the students the importance of honesty and becoming good, wholesome citizens of the twin-island Federation as they go through life.

The release noted that “the High command of the Police Force endorses the activities of Operation Future, whose main objective is to reach out to children of primary school age, to warn them of the dangers of drugs and crime and to provide them with options so that they can lead honest and productive lives as adults”.

Operation Future, which was officially launched on June 29, 2006, is the brainchild of Constable Lauston Percival who, along with a number of his colleagues, felt the need for steering the nation’s youth in a positive direction.
