Tortola Judo Club students victorious in 2015 tournament

    December 2nd, 2015 -- The students of the Tortola Judo Club located in Pasea  Estate Tortola, were victorious in the 2015 Judo Tournament held on Thursday, 19th November 2015. A total of 14 students participated aging form 4- 7 years. 

     

    The tournament was held between students they were grading on the following skills: Best Break fall, best throw (3 winners), Knowledge of Judo Terms, and Spirit of Judo.

    The top winners were:  
     
    1.  Kailon Pickering
    2.  Sam Potgieter
    3.  Seth Bobbie
    4.  Hady Shaheen
     
    The participating students were: 
     
    1. Luke potter
    2. Josiah Means
    3. Jacobs Wise
    4. Santie Lopez
    5. Sam Sorrentino
    6. Falicity Means
    7. Adity Munesar
    8. Ahmad Tarabay 
    5.  Ava Morton
    6.  Jasmine Morris

    All  students  that  participated  in  the  tournament  received  trophies  as  they  meet  the  basic  skill requirements over the fall season. Sensei and founder of the Tortola Judo Club  Mark Hooper, said “Judo is a sport, an art, and  way of life for many people. I have been teaching young children for many years and I find judo builds self-esteem, physical and mental strength. Judo also helps children in school as it develops discipline, competition, and much care for self and care for others”.
     
    There are six Sensei at the Tortola Judo Club who are black belt levels and trained to work with children. Judo is a sport of unarmed combat derived from Ju-jitsu and intended to train the body and mind. It involves using holds and leverage to  unbalance the opponent.    Person interested in joining the Tortola Judo Club can call 494-2891,  or stop by the Dojo located in Pasea Estate behind Island Paints, Monday – Friday 8:30 am – 4:30 pm
