PM Harris Thanks Sir K. Dwight Venner For His Outstanding Contribution To OECS Development

By: Office of the Press Secretary, Press Release

December 1, 2015 -- Prime Minister Dr. the Hon. Timothy Harris paid sterling tribute to former Eastern Caribbean Central Bank Governor Sir K. Dwight Venner whose retirement came into effect today (December 1).

In a letter to Sir Dwight Dr. Harris wrote, “On behalf of the government and people of St. Kitts and Nevis I wish to thank you for your outstanding service as Governor of the Eastern Caribbean Central Bank over the last 26 years. Under your leadership the ECCB has seen tremendous growth and expansion of its portfolio of services, and overseen growth and stability in the OECS financial system.”

PM Harris said a component of Sir Dwight’s legacy would be the foundations laid for sustainable development and transformation of ECCU countries. “Your tenure will be defined, inter alia, by a pellucid articulation and broad acceptance of a roadmap for sustainable growth and socioeconomic transformation in the Eastern Caribbean Currency Union, and the role of ‘entrepreneurship, innovation and private sector development in providing the fundamental underpinning’ of our developing economies…The foundation you have laid no doubt will inform important policy decisions and actions (going forward) in the sub-region and further afield and for that I say thank you on behalf of all.”

The Prime Minister ended by offering best wishes to Sir Dwight on behalf of the government and people of St. Kitts and Nevis.
