Man jumps through window to escape burning house

By: Terresa McCall, SKNVibes.com

BASSETERRE, St. Kitts – NEIGHBOURS who saw smoke coming from the house of a Salt Pond Alley resident may have saved his life having woken him from deep sleep to alert him that his house was on fire.

Fire Chief Everette O’Garro told SKNVibes that a report was made at the Basseterre Fire Station at about 12:45 a.m. (Dec. 5) and when the dispatched unit arrived on the scene, it found the wooden structure engulfed in flames.

He said the team moved swiftly to contain the blaze and within a half-hour’s time, the situation was under control.

When the unit initially arrived on the scene however, the occupant of the house – identified as Kayvon Browne – was already on the outside and according to O’Garro, after being made aware that his house was on fire, he was able to escape harm by jumping through a window.

The structure was the property of Dora Casey.

Fire Chief O’Garro commended his team for their work, noting that they did well in preventing the fire from spreading to the other structures of the densely-populated area.

As for the cause of the fire, the Fire Chief informed that it is still unknown.
