Good Samaritan helps elderly robbery victim

By: Stanford Conway, SKNVibes.com

BASSETERRE, St. Kitts – JUST one day after bandits had robbed three African students and sexually assaulted one of them, a Good Samaritan had rendered assistance to an elderly male visitor to St. Kitts who was robbed by two men on Friday (Dec. 4).

A police communiqué stated that at about 12 noon while the visitor was walking in the Wades Garden area, two unarmed individuals attacked him from the rear and robbed him of his wallet that contained personal identifications, credit cards and US$53, as well as a Samsung S4 cellular phone.

One of the robbers was said to be wearing a dark shirt with black pants and white shoes, while the other had donned a white shirt and khaki pants.

Shortly after the incident, a passerby assisted the visitor who complained about chest pains and took him to the JNF Hospital for observation.

The passerby also reported the incident to the Basseterre Police Station, from where members of the Special Services Unit and the Criminal Investigations Department visited the crime scene and also the robbery victim who, at that time, was at the hospital.

Commenting on the incident, Assistant Commissioner of Police with responsibility for Crime, Ian Queeley commended the passerby for the act of kindness, noting that the individual’s actions clearly demonstrated that good persons would do what is right.

“Just like this Good Samaritan did the right thing and rendered assistance, I encourage persons in the area who may have seen the incident to come forward so we may bring the individuals responsible to justice. You can do so by calling the nearest police station or Crime Stoppers at 1-800-8477 (TIPS) with any information you may have. Ensuring Citizen Safety will take all of us. If you see or hear something call the police...,” Queeley said.
