Man hospitalised in Newtown shooting incident

    BASSETERRE, St. Kitts – POLICE on St. Kitts are investigating a shooting incident that took place early this morning (Dec. 6) which has left of a young man hospitalised.

     

    Reports reaching SKNVibes state that approximately 1:30 this morning, one Trevon Joseph was shot while in a house on Sandown Road, Newtown.

    It was learnt that Joseph, who is said to hail from Boyd’s Village but, according to the police, is currently residing at Sandown Road, was shot in his left leg while in his home.

    SKNVibes also learnt that the unknown gunman or gunmen had fired a number of shot from through a window of the house, which is situated next to an alley.

    Joseph was rushed to the JNF Hospital where he was treated for his injury and is currently warded there.

    A police report stated that members of the Violent Crimes Unit had visited the scene and investigations are ongoing.

    The report also stated that Assistant Commissioner of Police with responsibility for Crime, Ian Queeley is once again echoing the need for community involvement in the fight against crime and is asking residents of that area or anyone who may have been in the vicinity around the time of the incident to come forward with any information that could lead to the arrest and subsequent conviction of the perpetrator or perpetrators.

    “If you have seen something, if you have heard something as it relates to this or any violent crime, or any criminal activity, tell someone. Call the Basseterre or Charlestown Police Station or any police station with your information. You can also do so anonymously by calling Crime Stoppers at 1-800-847 (TIPS).” 

    This incident comes on the heels of the shooting-death of 20-year-old Kirrstein 'Ekco' Carey as gun-related violence continues in the twin-island Federation.

    Carey, who hailed from Nevis but was residing in Newtown at the time of his demise, was shot multiple times while riding a bicycle on King Street at about 10:00 p.m. on Sunday (Nov. 29).

    The incident occurred less than 100 metres from the Basseterre Police Station.
