St. Maarten Carnival on the go

    BASSETERRE, St. Kitts - ST. MAARTEN is currently celebrating its 40th Carnival Anniversary under the theme “Looking splendid and fine for Carnival 2009”.

     

    The festivities officially began on April 16 and kicked off with an opening jump up and Band-O-Rama Night on April 17, while the other dates had seen various queens and calypso shows, soca competitions and carnival parades on numerous days.

     

    On April 27, the Calypso Senior Monarch Finals was held where 10 calypsonians including King Stunky, King Jacko, Kaiso Brat, King Repeater, Genius, Mighty Dow, King T-Mo, Fish De Mega Boss, Baker JR and Ricky De Phox all came up against defending Monarch, King Beau Beau.  

     

    King Beau Beau was once again crowned the Senior Calypso King making him an eleven-time title holder.

     

    In the First Runner-up position was the Mighty Dow with 861 points. He was followed by Timo with 847 points, Baker Jr. with 831 and Ricky Phox with 817 points.

     

    Tonight will feature the Cultural Blend R&B and Soca International show while tomorrow will be J’Ouvert morning and a Zouk Night International show.

     

    The St. Maarten’s 40th Carnival Anniversary is scheduled to conclude on Monday, May 4.
