Taiwan Embassy reaffirms its support to the Nation’s Youths

By: EMU, Press Release

(EMU) – St. Kitts, December 10, 2015: The Republic of China (Taiwan) validated its support and continued partnership with the Government of St. Kitts and Nevis on Wednesday, 9 December, with the donation of scholarships to students.

One hundred and seventy (170) students were awarded monetary scholarships at an awards ceremony held at the Sir Cecil Jacobs Auditorium of the Eastern Caribbean Central Bank.  The deserving students were selected for their commendable academic achievements at tertiary level institutions within the Federation.  The Government of St. Kitts and Nevis and the Republic of China (Taiwan) formalised the sponsorship agreement and signed a five year memorandum back in 2014, after fifteen (15) years of successful co-operation in the area of human resource development.

Deputy Prime Minister, Hon. Shawn Richards was in attendance at the ceremony to offer congratulatory remarks and well wishes to the scholarship recipients and to impress upon them the importance and honour of being recognized.  The Minister further elaborated, “Over the years the Government of the Republic of China (Taiwan) has been consistent in the provision of sponsorships towards the human resource development project in the Ministry of Education. The Human Resource Project funds scholarships in service training programmes and special projects.  This project highlights the collaboration in the development of our young people.”

Resident Ambassador, His Excellency George Gow Wei Chiou, addressed the students and lauded them by stating, “I would like to extend my sincere congratulations to the 170 scholarship recipients and their parents. This financial assistance which this scholarship provided may not be worth mention in your long term learning period but the recognition and recommendation is an irreplaceable milestone in building up your own career in the future.”

Recipients of the scholarship came from the Basseterre Senior High, Cayon High, Charles E. Mills Secondary, Charlestown Secondary, Gingerland Secondary, Saddlers Secondary, Washington Archibald High and Verchilds High Schools as well as the Cotton Thomas Comprehensive School and the Clarence Fitzroy Bryant College.
