Attempted armed robbery at FND Credit Union

By: Terresa McCall, SKNVibes.com

BASSETERRE, St. Kitts – EMPLOYEES of the FND Credit Union arrived for work earlier today (Dec. 18) not expecting to have a regular day but instead found themselves being victims of a daring attempted armed robbery.

General Manager of the organization James Webbe told SKNVibes that he arrived for work at about 7:30 a.m. shortly after which a junior staffer arrived.

“And shortly after that a guy who waters the plants every Friday morning came. And I was sitting by the door waiting for him to finish because he doesn’t take more than two minutes to water the plants. So while waiting a gunman rushed in camouflage from face to boots came in. He demanded money and I told him we didn’t have any. He took my phone and the key to the vehicle and went to the young teller and demanded money of him also.

“I explained to him he can’t give money because there is no money to be given. He went into a room looking and then ran out of the door…and he left the scene in the vehicle for which he took the key, our vehicle…”

Webbe described himself and the junior staffer “lucky” to have escaped such an ordeal with no physical injuries.

Although the experience was an unnerving one, he said they are coping with it well.

Questioned about the possibility of beefing up security so as to guard against a reoccurrence, Webbe expressed that “We are trying to do that all the time. It is an ongoing it is just that the bad guys are getting worse and worse, more aggressive and consistent. It is going to cost us more but it must be done…"

Webbe said the vehicle which the bandit left with is a small blue Suzuki van which bears the registration number P6602. He asked that anyone who sees it kindly contact the nearest police station and inform the officers there.
