Strong winds uproot tent, force Calypso Semi-Finals postponement

By: Terresa McCall, SKNVibes.com

BASSETERRE, St. Kitts – CALYPSO fans who were turning up for the Sugar Mas Calypso Monarch Semi-Finals last evening (Dec. 22) were told that the show was postponed because the tent under which the artistes were to perform was uprooted by gusty winds compounded by the threat of rainfall.

The event, held at 17 Degrees, actually got off to a start with two of the Semi-Finalists, Gloria and Craig, performing their pieces.

The high winds however put a stop to the show by ripping the tent from its position.

Carnival Chairman Noah Mills then announced that because of the inclement weather, the show was being postponed and is expected to be held this evening (Dec. 22).

Questions have been raised, however, about whether or not a tent would be used again this evening or if the event would be held in an area where there is more structural integrity.

Concerns have been raised about the possibility of a repeat of last evening’s happening if another tent is used, especially with the prevailing high winds.

Attempts were made to contact the Carnival Chairman to find out if alternative plans are being made for this evening’s show, but the calls were unsuccessful.
