The Ministry of Foreign Affairs Rolls out Plans for 2016

The Honourable Mark Brantley, Minister of Foreign Affairs
By: SKNIS, Press Release

Basseterre, St. Kitts, December 22, 2015 (SKNIS): The Ministry of Foreign Affairs (MOFA) is steadfast in its pursuit to ensure that the Federation of St. Kitts and Nevis maintains a positive outlook as it relates to its international partners, as well as the citizens and residents at home and abroad.

One important initiative of 2016 is the hosting of Diplomatic Week, which is designed to bring people together for the benefit of all.

“In the New Year, we will have Diplomatic Week 2016, where we hope to bring everyone here in St. Kitts and Nevis,” said the Honourable Mark Brantley, Minister of Foreign Affairs.

He noted that St. Kitts and Nevis’ overseas missions are being encouraged to be proactive and to deliver for the Federation. “They are expected to be deliberate and aggressive in promoting our twin-islands as a major tourist destination, create greater awareness about the Citizenship by Investment (CBI) Programme and advertise investment opportunities available in St. Kitts and Nevis,” he said.

The foreign minister added that people within the diaspora are a very critical part of who we are and they will not be left out.

“We, through our diplomacy and our missions, embassies and consulates, must provide for them a bridge between St. Kitts and Nevis, the mother land and they wherever they are,” said Minister Brantley. “And so in the New Year, we will double up our efforts and redouble efforts in relations to engaging the diaspora.”

Minister Brantley noted that one of the ministry’s “priority continues to be engagement with the global north and particularly with our friends in the United States of America and Canada. With Canada in particular, we will redouble efforts to ensure that our visa waiver status is reinstated and that our citizens once again enjoy visa-free travel to that country.”

To the good offices of the Federation’s High Commission, which was recently opened in Ottawa, Canada, as well as to high level exchanges, Minister Brantley stated that St. Kitts and Nevis is committed to overcoming those present challenges.
