Basseterre, St. Kitts, December 22, 2015 (SKNIS): The Appropriation (2016) Bill, 2015, was approved and passed unanimously by the National Assembly of St. Kitts and Nevis on Monday, December 21, 2015. The Opposition was absent for the vote.
Prime Minister Dr. the Honourable Timothy Harris during his wrap-up presentation, said that the budget “truly represents a team effort.” The 2016 Budget is the first to be presented by the Government of National Unity that was elected to office ten months ago.
During his presentation, Prime Minister Harris said he was proud that not only was this the first budget to be presented by the Team Unity Administration but it is a surplus budget.
“We expect to realize $119.1 million at a current count and a primary surplus of $106.7 million.”
This “by any measure,” said Prime Minister Harris, “is an excellent out turn,” further affirming that this could only be achieved through the “astute fiscal management that our people can and should expect from Team Unity.”
Prime Minister Harris, reiterating his government’s commitment to competently manage the Federation’s resources, said “under my watch, not just as the Minister of Finance but as the Prime Minister of this country that I love, I will manage the country’s resources prudently and satisfactorily.”
He pledged to the nationals of St. Kitts and Nevis that “Team Unity will govern responsibly,” further noting that, “management will be prudent.”
